On Page vs Off Page SEO

June 27, 2012 by Sathishkumar Varatharajan 1 Comment

On Page and Off Page SEO employ different strategies to help raise the rank of your website in search results. On Page SEO relies heavily on the content of your site while Off Page SEO is responsible for spreading the word about your content. Both of these attract traffic to your website but they both have different strengths and weaknesses.

On Page SEO

For On Page SEO you attract readers by providing high-quality content. The technique is to make the articles as relevant as possible to what the visitors are looking for. It greatly helps if you are an expert on the topic you are writing about. This way, you can give new and useful information to the reader. This type of SEO mainly uses keywords to let the search engine know that the website has what the searcher is looking for.

The main strength of On Page SEO is that once the reader is directed to the site, they are more likely to stay since it relies on unique and relevant content. However, especially for new websites, it might take some time before the search engine discovers your content. There is also a limit on how many times you can use the keyword because too much usage may mark your content as spam.

Off Page SEO

On the other hand, Off Page SEO relies on other websites’ feedback on your site. By adding your link on their website, other webmasters can direct their traffic to yours. The search engine sees this as a sort of recommendation and the linking website’s rank will reflect on yours too. The technique is to get linked from websites that have been ranked high by search engines and avoid low quality websites. Once you have been associated with a trusted site, your website will gain more trust.

This strategy has unlimited potential since you don’t have to wait for the search engine to find you. Instead, you work to get your credentials and by the time you are discovered, you will easily be ranked high. However, if the website does not have good quality content, you may still get negative feedback from readers that have been directed to your site.

Using On Page and Off Page SEO

Both SEO methods should work hand in hand to achieve the best results. The initial investment is on the quality of your website. Make sure that you bring something new to the table and establish a brand of your own. It will be hard to compete with other websites if your content only reflects theirs. Hire experts to write excellent articles for your website.

Aside from the content, make sure your site is user-friendly. Even if the reader is interested in your content, if your website is hard to navigate they will only get frustrated and leave. Check that whether you can access all of your pages through the navigation links. Also, ensure that your titles, anchor texts and other introductory texts are descriptive and informative. This is to ensure that it will be easier for the reader to look for an article they are interested in.

After doing all this, it is time to get your website out there. Advertise on social networking sites and social bookmarking sites to reach as many people as possible. It helps to reach out to people in general but you can also narrow it down to a specific group of people. Forums are great places to find people who are interested in a certain topic and might be interested in your website. Choose forums that discuss topics that are relevant to your website’s content.

With these Off Page SEO strategies you can get traffic to your website while your investment in On Page SEO techniques will compel them to stay loyal and possibly recommend your website to other people.
