What Is Google Penguin Update and How to Recover from It?

June 13, 2012 by Sathishkumar Varatharajan 6 Comments

Google Penguin has been around for almost one month now, and it has been doing its job properly as the best spam fighter algorithm. It has satisfied Google and it considers Penguin to be a great success.

But in reality, there are several odd results that have led some people to question the authenticity of Penguin. There are some websites that are ranking higher even though they are empty and considered as online business money makers. Some websites about Viagra that have been sending spam emails are still around even though Viagra websites are delisted.

Google-Penguin-Update

It has also been a disaster for new bloggers as they are losing their rankings in the search engine because they practice SEO optimization methods in some ‘negative’ or even ‘harmful’ ways when seen from Google Penguin’s perspective.

Google Penguin: What to do about it?

Most targeted websites accused of spam, practice swap linking which has been used by some blogs as well. While it is applicable in some cases, it may not be fair for some good websites that do not deserve to be considered spam. Matt Cutts said that there is no perfect algorithm and Google has been fighting for it.

So, instead of crying over the spilt milk about what Google Penguin has done, it is better to recover with some simple, efficient methods. It is important to comprehend the way Google Search operates and it is best to take up the corrective measures. Human raters and Google search works can be incorporated well with some tips.

It is fine if your site has been penalized and you think it is truly a mistake. It is possible to fill up a form provided at “https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/spamreport” and submit accurate information.

If your website has been penalized and you think Google has made a mistake, you don’t always have to think that it is due to Penguin. Instead, you should work upon your site’s overall optimization. Particularly, on-page optimization has been one of the most crucial aspects of search engine optimization.

Be wise on SEO and Keyword Density methods

Search engine optimization has not vanished. It is just that all internet users should be wiser enough to make the most of it. It is wise to use Google Webmaster Tool for analyzing the SEO for your site in a detailed manner.

Of late, Google has started sending out emails to the users of webmaster tool, regarding any changes, updates or the latest information regarding your site’s traffic. You can get a notification when and if there are lots of spam links that point to your site.

The other thing that you have to deal with, for recovery from Google Penguin, is keyword density. As it was a common practice previously to have a keyword density of four to five percent, it is time to stop doing this. It is recommended to utilize LSI words.

A keyword density of two percent seems to be more than just enough these days. Moreover, it is better to have keywords with a long tail as they are much easier to rank. If you think that your website or blog has too many keywords, make sure to edit them again and apply LSI for proper keyword density.

The new Google Penguin update should benefit the white hat SEO community as the algorith rewards those who practice ethical link building at the expense of those who are intent on gaming the system. After all, search engines are always trying to stay ahead of the game by delivering the most relevant results.

Nice post. The latest Penguin update may have sent the message that it’s dangerous for webmasters and site owners not to know much about the post-Penguin 2.0 scenario, but it certainly isn’t cause enough for you to panic. As long as you get the basics down, you should have nothing to worry about.

      Hi Kenn,

You have said it all. If you follow the basics and don’t involve in negative SEO tactics, then you don’t have to worry about any Google updates not just Penguin.
